Kobus Lombard registered as a professional landsurveyor in 1976. The firm was established by him in 1979. In 1996 the Company J.J. Lombard Professional Land Surveyors (Pty) Ltd was established.
Andreas du Preez, Professional Land Surveyor and Town and Regional Planner, joined the company in 1997. Andreas du Preez obtained shares in the Company in October 2004 and the name of the company changed to Lombard Du Preez Professional Land Surveyors (Pty) Ltd.
The company sponsored Kobus Lombard jnr., who received his B.Sc Geomatics Degree in June 2004, at the University of Cape Town. Kobus Lombard jnr. joined the company in June 2004, doing his articles as a Land Surveyor in Training and qualified as a Professional Land Surveyor in August 2006.  He also obtained shares in the company in August 2006.

Although the company originated as a Land Survey firm, Kobus Lombard has been doing town planning work since the early 1980’s. Andreas du Preez later qualified himself as a registered Town planner as well, and the company is therefore a Land Survey and a Town Planning practice. Kobus Lombard, Andreas du Preez and Kobus Lombard jnr. are all registered as Professional Land Surveyors with PLATO and are members of the South African Geomatics Institute (SAGI). Andreas du Preez is registered as a Town and regional Planner with SACPLAN (South African Coucil for Planners) and is also a member of SAPI (South African Planining Institute).
